Picture Jesus Christ the Nazarene as He comes upon the mountain overlooking Jerusalem. Luke 19:41 says, “And when as He approached He saw the city, He wept over it.”

What would it be like to hear Jesus Christ, who was God in human form, audibly weep? John 11:35 says, “Jesus wept.” The Greek word here is dakruo, which indicates that His physical body vibrated because He wept so deeply. Matthew 23:37 says, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”

Millions of people, each of whom God created, are upon the heart of Jesus. He wants to love each and every one. He longs to forgive everything anyone has ever done and give the gift of eternal life. Just by believing, anyone can receive His salvation. But many will not receive Him. As Jerusalem did when He was on the earth, many people reject Him. Still, He longs to gather them into His Kingdom. Is it any wonder that He wept audibly over Jerusalem and was so overwhelmingly burdened for the lost?
