In Philippians 3:8, we see that Paul counted everything “but dung” if it interfered with the call of God on his life. He determined to put the things of yesterday behind him. If only Christians could have this attitude!
The past is a great instrument used by Satan to affect the present. People often bring up negative occurrences from their past lives and dwell on them unnecessarily. They allow those experiences to dominate their minds, and as a result, they live in anxiety and subjectivity.
In Philippians 3:13, Paul forgets “those things which are behind.” With this mindset, we can continue on, “reaching forth,” advancing to grasp the things that God has in store for us. It is what we are becoming in Christ that stirs us up, and we become single-eyed.
It is where we are going that counts. So, we “press toward the mark for the prize.” We overtake it by continually pursuing it. What is the prize? It is the “high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Through the process of pressing on in God’s Kingdom, we experience the call of God.
"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
Mark 11:24
